The annual output of high-power graphite electrodes in our factory has increased to 10000 tons

Graphite electrode refers to a kind of high-temperature resistant graphite conductive material made from petroleum coke and needle coke as raw materials and coal tar pitch as binder through raw material calcination, crushing, grinding, batching, kneading, molding, roasting, impregnation, graphitization and mechanical processing. It is called artificial graphite electrode (graphite electrode for short), which is different from the natural graphite electrode made from natural graphite. According to its quality index, it can be divided into ordinary power graphite electrode, high power graphite electrode and ultra-high power graphite electrode.



High power graphite electrodes are produced from high-quality petroleum coke (or low-level needle coke). Sometimes the electrode body needs to be impregnated. Its physical and mechanical properties are higher than those of ordinary power graphite electrodes. For example, its resistivity is low and large current density is allowed.



High power graphite electrode allows the use of graphite electrode with current density of 18 ~ 25a/cm2, which is mainly used in high-power electric arc furnace for steelmaking.





Electric furnace steelmaking is a major user of graphite electrode. In China, the output of electric furnace steel accounts for about 18% of the output of crude steel, and the graphite electrode used for steelmaking accounts for 70% ~ 80% of the total consumption of graphite electrode. Electric furnace steelmaking is to use the graphite electrode to introduce current into the furnace, and use the high-temperature heat source generated by the arc between the electrode end and the furnace charge.



The submerged arc furnace is mainly used to produce industrial silicon and yellow phosphorus. It is characterized by that the lower part of the conductive electrode is buried in the furnace charge, forming an arc in the charge layer, and using the heat energy generated by the resistance of the charge itself to heat the charge. Among them, the submerged arc furnace with high current density requires graphite electrodes. For example, about 100kg of graphite electrodes are required for every 1t of silicon and about 40kg for every 1t of yellow phosphorus.



The graphitization furnace for producing graphite products, the furnace for melting glass and the electric furnace for producing silicon carbide are all resistance furnaces. The materials in the furnace are both heating resistors and heated objects. Generally, the graphite electrode for conducting electricity is embedded in the furnace head wall at the end of the resistance furnace, where the graphite electrode is used for discontinuous consumption.



The blank of graphite electrode is also used to process various crucibles, molds, boat dishes, heaters and other special-shaped graphite products. For example, in the quartz glass industry, 10t graphite electrode blank is required for each 1t of electric melting pipe; 100kg graphite electrode blank is required for each 1t of quartz brick.



Since the fourth quarter of 2016, with the promotion of the supply side reform policy in the iron and steel industry, cracking down on ground bars has become the top priority in eliminating backward production capacity. On january10,2017, the deputy director of the national development and Reform Commission said at the 2017 Council meeting of CISA that all ground bars would be removed before June 30, 2017. In 2017, the total capacity of electric furnace steel in China was about 120million tons, of which 86.6 million tons were in production and 15.6 million tons were discontinued. By the end of october2017, the re production capacity of electric arc furnace was about 26.5 million tons, of which the re production accounted for about 30%. Affected by the capacity reduction of the medium frequency furnace, the electric furnace steel starts actively, and the economic benefits of the electric furnace steel are prominent. The electric furnace steel has a good demand for high-power and ultra-high-power graphite electrodes, and has a high enthusiasm for procurement.



In 2017, the domestic price of graphite electrode soared, the overseas demand climbed, and both domestic and overseas markets resumed prosperity. In China, the price of domestic graphite electrode soared in 2017 due to the joint effects of "ground bar steel" clearing, electric arc furnace capacity growth, carbon enterprises' environmental protection and production restriction, which shows that the domestic graphite electrode market is in short supply. At the same time, China's graphite electrodes have increased significantly, showing strong demand for overseas graphite electrodes. Both at home and abroad have shown strong demand for graphite electrodes, and the industry is still in a situation of supply exceeding demand.
